You might wonder, why GCMI colors? It’s simple: they are created specifically for corrugated packaging, which means the color swatches you see below are the various GCMI colors printed on actual corrugated linerboard material. In using these color swatches to pick colors, you can see what the end result will look like.
Why not use PMS colors? PMS colors are primarily used when printing on substrates with a pure white background or a substrate that will not distort the color. Corrugated being a porous substrate, the color of the linerboard whether it is Kraft (brown) or Oyster (off-white) alters the color you would expect on a more suitable substrate. Since the color of the linerboard can affect the end result, you will also notice slight changes in the color solely from different shades of linerboard. For example, a darker brown corrugated box will make the color appear darker than a lighter-colored box that may have more recycled content in it.
The best way to achieve the color you are looking for in the end product is by picking from the swatches below because this is what the color will look like on your corrugated box and will be the best way to match the PMS color you desire.
